Recall the recent case in West Virginia where the accused tortured and killed 29 dogs in front of his girl friend. He was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery, felony kidnapping and twenty-nine counts of felony animal cruelty.

As of Monday, Huliq.com reports 3220 signatures had been collected on an online petition on the website Change.org. The people signing the petition are calling of a harsh penalty in this case.

What I can’t understand is how he was only charged with a misdemeanor on the domestic battery. He forced his former girlfriend to watch as he tortured 29 innocent animals and then kill them.

When will our criminal justice system wake up and put the welfare and safety of victims and potential victims ahead of the criminals? How is it okay to go easy on violent offenders in a way that puts innocent people and animals at risk?
