Report: Chicken jerky treats could be cause of illness in dogs

NBC is reporting chicken jerky treats are a possible link to illness and death in a number of dogs nationwide. A warning has been issued by the US Food and Drug Administration.

At least 70 dogs have gotten sick after eating the treats, linked to products imported from China. But unfortunately, recent test have not resulted in a chemical link or a link to specific brand.

Illness cases can be reported to the FDA’s Pet Food Complaint site.

In light of this reporting, I would of course suggest caution in feeding your dogs this sort of jerky treat.

    Tom –

I gave my dogs the chicken jerky poppers last week at night and they both vomited the next morning — two days in a row. Bad stuff.

    Ben,
Sorry to hear that. Maybe it would be good to contact the manufacturer.

Hope you’re doing well and the dogs are fully recovered.
