Two newspapers make statements on greyhound racing

How about the Palm Beach Post? Its sports editor announced Saturday the sports section “no longer will carry entries or results for greyhound racing at Palm Beach Kennel Club.”

The bad news is the publication will still cover “big events” such as major horse races at the venue. It’s a step in the right direction, although it doesn’t go far enough. I still don’t understand why any newspaper or television network would cover horse racing or greyhound racing as a “sport.” Neither industry qualifies at all as a sport.

The Arizona Daily Star goes the distance with an editorial headlined, “Dog-racing industry a model of disregard.”

The editorial slams the Tucson Greyhound Park for defying a ban on anabolic steroid injections for dogs in South Tucson. And it clearly makes the case against the industry – “The greyhound racing industry again and again has shown disregard for the dogs.”

TGP will never change. No matter what we do they will continue to operate. We must other ways to negatively impact their business.
