Tom Grady

I’ve been a freelance journalist and columnist for the last decade and have produced weekly columns concerning animal welfare over this span.

I turned to blogging several years ago for the local paper I write primary for. Last year, in late March of 2010, I decide to take my efforts to the national level – with the Pack Mentality Blog.

This latest site, founded in March of 2011, is the next step forward.

I made this short PSA in response to Whoopie’s comments. I rescue breeding moms from mills. I used the pictures of one mom, Hope, to make my point.

    Hi Tom,

I’m a researcher for production team that produces Confessions: Animal Hoarding, a television series currently airing on Animal Planet that tries to find solutions to the problems of animal hoarding before it becomes a criminal case. I don’t know if anyone has approached you about writing a note/ blog/ appeal for us. We’re currently in development for our third season and want to get the word out about what we do and how we can help.

We are dedicated to finding comprehensive long-term solutions and believe therapy to be key to this. We bring in experts and have the resources to help both people and their pets. We have a full-time aftercare department – which helps find homes for the animals and tracks out participants, making sure they are attending their therapy appointments long after our cameras have stopped rolling.

Of the 32 stories featured in our first season, pets were voluntarily relinquished in all but two. Thanks to the aftercare and ongoing therapy we provide, our recidivism rate has been near zero (as compared to nearly 100% when pets are forcibly removed).

We’d also greatly appreciate it if you could share this information with your colleagues who might encounter a case of hoarding or people who work in animal welfare as well as on your website.

I check your site everyday and read all of the news that you have found. I really appreciate the links on the right hand side of the page and use them regularly. I have become much more aware of widespread animal abuse. It has allowed me to write letters, sign petitions, contact legislators, change my buying habits, inform others about issues and financially support organizations that work to protect animals and improve their lives.

I have been unable to use the link for Humane Society of the United States the last couple of days.
    Is there a problem?

Thank you for your dedication and love of our fellow earthlings.
