Purchasing poaching products particularly putrid

Those who are buying products made from elephant tusks or rhino horns or any other threatened or endangered species are the root cause of the horrors of poaching.

And now we know that terrorists are funding their operations in part through poaching. So anyone who purchases ivory now or rhino horn products or any poached items have become promoters of terrorists.

Let’s go ahead and tell it like it is. Too many people in countries like China and Vietnam are buying these products in full support of the terrorists. And clueless people in the United States are supporting the horrors too. A 2008 study showed the US is the No. 2 market for ivory.

Are some people here in the US – supposedly the most advanced of nations – really that uneducated? Stop – You don’t need to tell me. I know … I know. It’s true.

It is pure evil in every way. Poaching is driving animals to extinction and killing innocent people in staggering numbers. And it is driven by clueless people who either wrongly believe rhino horns have medicinal value or are so vain and stupid that they value a trinket over the lives of innocent people and animals.

It’s sick and it’s evil.

Dad makes stunningly-inaccurate statement, in defending his trophy-hunting daughter

The Texas Tech cheerleader who drew a lot of attention recently after posing with animals she had killed on big-game trophy hunts, appeared recently at an outdoors show.

Recall that supporters of the woman used the excuses that killing endangered animals somehow helps to protect them. I guess if there isn’t a reasonable excuse for doing something wrong, people will try to fill the void with some sort of nonsense.

But now the nonsense has been taken to a new level, by the cheerleader’s father. In a CNN video, he says, “There’s never been an animal go extinct because of hunters. There’s been animals go extinct because of poachers.”

That is unbelievably, stunningly inaccurate. Just go to the Wikipedia link highlighted here and go from the 18th Century forward. Between hunting and habitat destruction, humans have been wiping out species for a long, long time. And hunting only becomes poaching when the hunting and habitat destruction reaches critical levels.

And the father’s statement is only made worse by the fact that if not for protections, such as those put into effect by the Endangered Species Act, even more animal species would have been wiped out by hunting. Take for example the Bald Eagle.

But it is important to note that this case also reflects on the state of journalism in the US. I have no problem with news outlets presenting statements from both sides within a story like this. But facts matter. What the dad said was grossly inaccurate. Journalists and news outlets have a responsibility to report facts.

Sure, present the opinions from both sides. But when a statement is made by either side that steps way beyond the scope of fact, the media should the take the extra step to report the facts. To let the extreme inaccuracy go is just lazy.

Propaganda Alert: Killing to preserve endangered species?

I am sick of reading quotes from trophy hunters who claim they are killing endangered species to save endangered species. And sometimes these people claim they’ve killed an endangered species to feed the starving people in the particular local region.

This is PROPAGANDA of the worst sort.

If anyone with the expendable income to travel to Africa or some other continent wants to help feed starving families, they can offer regular donations of food and water. That money will feed far more people than the gunned down animals would. And the money can go for fruits and vegetables as well.

The newest case in the media centers on Kendall Jones, a young woman who is clearly uninformed in matters of science, logic, endangered species and the suffering of animals.

She is quoted in a USA Today article as once writing, “Although I had many other opportunities to shoot animals I wanted to save it for the Big 5, so the first animal I ever shot was a White Rhino with a .416 Remington!!”

Rhinos are being wiped off the face of the Earth by poachers and trophy hunters. We may soon reach a point where children will grow up learning the species no longer exists. Killing rhinos and bragging about it is a horrible and inexcusable.

Some are claiming the proceeds from the sale of trophy-hunting packages goes to local villages and to conserve the very endangered species they are gunning down. This is off-the-charts idiotic.

If these people were truly concerned about saving endangered species, they would send the funds directly to the effort, as opposed to killing the animals for no other reason than to reach some sick goal of marking the animal off their kill list and staging a smiling photo op.

Horrible, evil, sick people are killing elephants

Among the planet’s most evil elements are those who are killing endangered elephants and rhinos for their horns and tusks. I will never understand what goes through the minds of people who can torture innocent people and animals – sometimes for nothing more than a motive for profit.

There most certainly is a special, incredibly hot corner of hell waiting these individuals.

The latest news is more than troubling, in that over 20,000 elephants were victims of poachers in 2013.

If the pace of killing continues, our kids could receive the news too soon that some evil humans have wiped two incredible species of animals off the face of the Earth.

The message splashed across the news headlines of late too often involves nasty levels of greed – be it from poaching to massive pay for CEOs, while hiring levels are not where they should be to more.

Baby rhino suffering emotionally after mother killed by poachers

A baby rhino rescued after evil poachers killed his mother, is suffering through some emotional problems.

The degenerates who are killing rhinos to support their evil profit motives are some of the worst of the Earth’s worst. They would gladly wipe a species of animal off the face of the Earth for profit.

Born Free USA statement on auction to kill black rhino

Born Free USA released a statement this afternoon concerning the auction for a permit to kill an endangered black rhino.

Wildlife conservation leader is saddened by Namibia’s decision and calls for action to oppose any permit application to bring the “trophy” to the U.S.

Washington D.C., January 17, 2014 — Today, Adam Roberts, Executive Vice President of Born Free USA, a national leader in wildlife conservation and animal welfare, released this statement regarding the killing of a black rhino auction in Texas:

“Born Free USA is saddened by Namibia’s misguided and short-sighted decision to allow this black rhino hunt to take place.  More importantly we will be mobilizing our grassroots supporters nationwide to oppose any permit application to bring the ‘trophy’ back into America.”

He continued, “With fewer than 5,000 black rhinos left in the wild it is truly shocking that any hunter would consider it sporting to slaughter one. That’s not real conservation. Real conservation involves wildlife law enforcement, securing protected areas, and stopping illicit trade.  Funds to underwrite these vital, life-saving activities could be provided without carnage.”

“More than 1,000 rhinos were poached in South Africa alone in 2013 — the highest number in one year on record. The global conservation community and governments everywhere must speak with a unified voice to declare that any killing of any rhino is incompatible with conservation, and for a species as imperiled as the rhino, every animal’s life is significant,” Roberts said.

Absurd statements in CNN article about auction to kill black rhino

I was stunned when I read an article tonight on the CNN website concerning the Dallas Safari Club auction, where the highest bidder “won” a permit to kill a black rhino in Africa.

The article states the high bidder actually participated to “save the species and raise awareness about wildlife conservation.” If this is the case, why doesn’t he simply write the check and stay home or travel to Africa and take photos of the rhinos.

But instead, Corey Knowlton is quoted as saying. “I want to experience a black rhino.” Again, go observe them, but don’t kill them.

And then the article took a troubling, completely unscientific turn, where the pro-killing side claims they know something about science. And here it is –

He said the threat to the rhino is from its own kind.

The claim is the older rhinos are not important to the herd and can actually harm the others or they others will harm the older rhino and this will do more harm to the species numbers. The only real threats to the rhinos are from hunters and poachers. Anyone who tries to claim otherwise must have failed science, horribly.

The actions within the herd would not be problematic and would merely be part of the natural behavioral patterns within the herd, if the species was not being hunted to extinction by uncaring humans. But the article goes on –

So Knowlton argues, why not let a hunter pay a massive amount of money to take out a threat to the rest of the species.

Completely absurd. That statement would ONLY make sense if he was talking about taking out the poachers. Otherwise, it’s as asinine a statement as anyone can make.

Thankfully, the Humane Society of the US will fight any effort to present Knowlton with a permit to transport the poor rhinos body back to the US to become a trophy.

Here’s the thing about the Dallas Safari Club auction

The Dallas Safari Club is thankfully catching a lot of heat for auctioning off a permit to kill an African Black Rhino. The wild claim is that the auction is planned to help the conservation effort for rhinos.

If the Dallas Safari Club really cared about the rhinos, the club would hold an auction, call off the hunt and donate the money raised.

But in reality, it’s all about killing a rhino. The award here is for the winner to be able to go to parties and tell the story of how they killed an endangered species. You can bet photos of the hunter and hunted will be splashed around hunting social media.

Only about 5,000 black rhinos exist on the planet. They are critically endangered. But Ben Carter of the Dallas Safari Club claims it’s good for the species to kill older members of the herd, who he says, “are not contributing to the population anymore.”

This shows a complete lack of understanding of animals – on humane and scientific levels.

I have a suggestion. Why not offer huge reward for the capture of wildlife poachers in Africa. Then the hunters can really say they did something great.
