According to Petfinder, 320,000 pets are waiting to be adopted on Petfinder.com at any given time. So as part of the organization’s year-long 15th birthday celebration, it has launched “Adopt the Internet Day.”

From a press released on the topic –

“The fact is, homeless pets still need all the ‘marketing agents’ they can get,” said Betsy Banks Saul, the co-founder of Petfinder.com. “That’s why on the 15th we want to celebrate by asking everyone to help us give an even louder World-Wide-Voice to homeless pets.”

Since Petfinder.com’s creation in 1996, it has helped to facilitate more than 17 million adoptions.  Petfinder.com has set a goal of finding homes for 2.5 million homeless animals in 2011.
