In the news: Two cases of animal cruelty

I see stories like this far too often, but the following two articles struck me as particularly representative of how cruel some people can be. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to understand what it takes – inside a person’s soul – to be able to torture another living being in this way.

In Florida, Bradenton.com reports a man allegedly tied a 30-pound dumbbell to his dog and threw it into a river. He left enough rope to force the dog to swim in place until it tired.

When an officer arrived on the scene he could only see the dog’s nose just above the surface of the water. Fortunately, he got there in time to save the dog from drowning.

And some people, even some scientists, try to falsely claim it is animals who don’t have emotion and feeling.

And the New York Daily News reports a DreamWorks animator is accused of climbing over a neighbor’s fence and beating a 1-year-old German Shepard puppy to death with a hammer. He also allegedly shot the dog with a pellet gun. The act was capture on surveillance video.

He was also charged with stealing the dog’s body.
