Ohio anti-puppy mill law to take effect in spring

Ohio Gov. John Kasich has signed the new Ohio dog breeding bill into law. It will take effect this spring. I wish it had more teeth and included more protections for dogs in puppy mills. But it could be a step in the right direction.

One primary prevision will be the annual inspections. This will work if and only if the state shuts down the failing mills – for good. It seems cage sizes and other standards are still being worked out, as noted in an article posted on the Columbus Dispatch website.

Let’s hope the people in charge are blessed with enough backbone to shut down the puppy mills and fully prosecute those who torture and neglect the animals.
