AVMA modifies its stance on the use of gas chambers

The Animal Law Coalition is reporting the American Veterinary Medical Association has modified its stance on the use of gas chambers as a method of euthanasia.

To date the AVMA has called the use of carbon monoxide gas chambers “acceptable” as a method of euthanasia. Now, in a new 2011 proposal, the organization is stating the following – (from the Animal Law Coalition website) –

What is cited as the ‘most humane method’ of killing seal pups is anything but humane

I read this article with disbelief. Headline on Canada.com – “Sealers accused of breaking humane-harvest rules.”

The lead to the article reports some seal hunters have been seen not using “accepted and humane methods in this year’s cull, say animal-welfare groups who have monitored the hunt.” So I thought – ‘What are these accepted and humane methods?’

We know THE humane method of euthanizing sick or injured animals is injection. But I for one was shocked to read the accepted and humane method cited in story is the following: (Warning – very graphic.)
