The Pack Mentality version of those fact-checking sites will offer a different, sometimes animal-related take on the wacky things people come up with – from politics to animal welfare to the environment other subjects.

First up is an article out of North Carolina, where a meeting of local officials and citizens was held recently to discuss the issue of seismic testing for oil beneath the ocean floor, off the NC coast.

Bruce Tackett was there to represent Resource Access International and American Petroleum Institute.

Sea Shepherd’s latest update on Japanese dolphin slaughter

UPDATED: 200+ BOTTLENOSE DOLPHINS HELD A SECOND NIGHT IN COVE; CAPTIVE SELECTION & SLAUGHTER TO RESUME AT ~ 2 PM PT TODAY

January 18, 2014 – TAIJI, Japan — Five separate pods of Bottlenose dolphins totaling more than 250 individuals including juveniles, babies and a priceless albino calf and its mom were driven into Taiji’s infamous killing cove on Thursday and held overnight. Swimming free just two days ago, they now face a lifetime in captivity in a tiny cell or brutal slaughter.

Yesterday, the members of the pod endured a violent and stressful captive selection process. Taiji dolphin killers and trainers once again worked side-by-side as they wrestled dolphins under their tarps where those deemed “pretty enough” for captivity were chosen. Babies and mothers were torn from each other’s sides as 25 Bottlenose dolphins were taken for captivity.

Scientists rightfully categorize slaughter of the dolphins inTaiji, Japan as cruelty

When it’s all said and done, logic matches up nicely with science. And this is the case with a scientific conclusion that the horrible torture that goes on during the killing of dolphins in Taiji, Japan is cruel.

The New York Times Dot Earth blog reported Sunday on a peer-reviewed study that suggests the

… killing method does not conform to the recognized requirement for “immediate insensibility” …

Of course this is true. Our common sense, logic and science tells us that the stabbing and cutting of conscious animals inflicts terrible physical and mental suffering.

This so-called hunt should be outlawed immediately. No civilized country or community of any kind could support this sort of animal cruelty.
